What's Not Included

Week 1

6 nights of accommodation are included on this trip. You’ve got 5 nights in amazing accommodation with modern designer rooms in the centre of Melbourne. With a rooftop terrace, shared kitchens, lounge areas and 4-8 bed dorms this is the perfect place to start your time in Melbourne. You've also got 1 night in a stylish, modern hostel on Phillip Island.

Let us know if you're travelling with a friend so we can make sure you're placed together. If you'd like to upgrade to a private room, it might be possible to arrange this at an additional cost. Please speak to a travel advisor for further details.

Accommodation beyond week 1

After your first 6 nights you'll need to organise your own accommodation. Many of our travellers choose to share a flat with the new friends they've made during their first week. Our local team will help you explore accommodation options in the city.

You might also choose to extend your stay in a hostel - a great option if you enjoy the social element and if you'd like to travel around. Hostels usually offer cheaper rates for long term stays.

Meals

3 lunches and 3 dinners are included in your first week, including a welcome meal and a farewell dinner. You'll need to organise the rest of your meals and drinks yourself.

Arrive in Melbourne and get set for the time of your life! You'll be met at the airport and transferred to your accommodation in the city where you can chill out and meet some of your fellow travellers before a first night in Melbourne.

Kick off today with a welcome meeting where we'll organise your bank account, phone number and tax file number. Then get to know the city on an epic walking tour before an included welcome dinner on the banks of the Yarra River.

This morning we have an employment & travel session planned, covering everything you need to know for your working holiday in Australia. Then we'll take an Aboriginal Heritage Walk before experiencing the best of Melbourne's iconic street art. Then, we will end in China Town for a meal.

It's time to head out of the city for our amazing overnight road trip to Mornington Peninsula and Phillip Island - two of the most beautiful areas in Australia. You can't come to Australia without trying the national pastime at least once, so grab a board and get out there for a surf lesson. Then head to Philip Island to visit the smallest penguins in the world.

Please note: In the winter months, surfing may be replaced with kayaking or mountain biking.

Start today with a meet and greet with koalas and kangaroos! Then, after grabbing some lunch, enjoy some beach time before trying some local wines from the area. Tonight, we will head back to Melbourne.

Today we have a 1-to-1 job support session planned for you to chat about job opportunities, accommodation options or any exciting travel plans. Enjoy a farewell meal tonight before heading out to experience Melbourne's incredible nightlife!

While today marks the end of our trip, your Aussie adventures are only just getting started! With no activities planned for today, travellers are welcome to depart at any time.

After your first 7 days exploring Melbourne and surrounding areas, you can begin focusing on securing your new job Down Under. On the tour, you will have received a thorough 'Work in Oz' presentation from your group leader. They will offer one-to-one advice on your CV and interview skills and make sure you feel prepared to find the perfect job. The local team will also ensure that you have an Australian bank account, Australian SIM card and Tax File Numbersorted too.

Throughout your time in Australia, our job offices have friendly staff who are dedicated to supporting you. If you have specific training or qualifications that need completing for jobs, they can explain what is needed and book you onto any courses. You will also have unlimited access to a jobs board, where amazing opportunities are posted daily.

Age & Eligibility:

British citizens aged between 18-35 (inclusive) are eligible for Working Holiday Visa. You can apply through us by selecting "+ Visa" in the dropdown menu when booking, or you can arrange your visa yourself.

  • Hold a passport issued by an eligible country or region*
  • Be aged 18-35 (inclusive) at the time of applying*
  • Not be accompanied by dependent children at any time during your stay in Australia
  • Meet health, character and financial requirements
  • Have not previously entered Australia on a Working Holiday visa (unless applying for a second or third year visa)
  • Be outside Australia when you apply and when visa is granted
  • Apply within 12 months of intended travel to Australia.
  • Have sufficient funds to cover your expected living/trip costs during your stay
  • Have funds for a return or onward ticket to depart Australia (or an actual ticket)

Please note: If you have a criminal record, you are still able to apply for a Working Holiday Visa yourself, but we will not be able to process your visa for you.

*Certain other nationalities are also eligible for this visa, although some countries the age limit is 30 years old. For full details please see our Australian Working Holiday Visa page.

Second and Third Year Visas

Due to the free trade agreement between the UK and Australia, British citizens can apply for up to 3 working holiday visas without the need to do rural/farm work to be eligible. This allows British citizens to stay in Australia for up to 3 years in total. Each visa is granted separately and is valid for 1 year. Second and third year visas can be done consecutively, but they don't need to be. As long as you meet the standard age and eligibility requirements you can apply at any time, either from Australia or abroad. Gap 360 can help you apply for the first year visa, but you will need to apply directly for any second or third year visas yourself once you have started your first year visa in Australia.

For more information, check out our Ultimate Guide to the Working Holiday Visa Australia.

Visa rules and regulations are subject to change. Please check the relevant embassy websites for up to date information.
