Accommodation

All of your accommodation is included on this trip. Two nights are spent at hotels in twin or triple-share, single-sex rooms. For the other four nights, you will be camping as part of the Lost City Trek.

Camping accommodation can vary on the Lost City Trek, however the majority of it will be in hammocks or bunks: with a mosquito provided for cover. The campsites have cold showers, flushing toilets and seating areas. Electricity is available at each camp between 5pm to 9pm. Some campsites may also have lighting and power sockets, however this cannot always be guaranteed.

Please note that packing a sleeping sheet or sleeping bag liner is recommended, as it will be too hot for a sleeping bag.

Meals

6 breakfasts, 5 lunches and 4 dinners are included for this trip. To help fuel your adventures, meals are prepared by a cook who accompanies your group on the trek. A typical breakfast can include juice, eggs, fresh fruit, coffee or hot chocolate. Lunch is typically chicken or fish served with rice and some juice. Dinner is similar to lunch, and includes some type of meat or fish served with vegetables and rice, followed up with a sweet or chocolate for dessert.

While in Santa Marta, there is an incredible variety of restaurants for you to choose from. The flavours are a sizzling fusion of Colombian and Caribbean cuisine, with some must-try dishes including arepas, empanadas, cayeye and patacones.

On this trip, you'll take one of the greatest treks in the world and explore the ruins of Colombia's 'Lost City': often called 'La Ciudad Perdida' or 'Teyuna'. You can arrive at any time today before the welcome meeting at the hotel in the evening.

It's an early rise this morning as we drive to Machete Pelao, where our epic trek begins! On our way to Ricardito Camp, we'll also pass by rural farmland nestled into the mountains. If the skies are clear, anticipate a gorgeous sunset here.

Today's trek is a tough one, but the steep views are incredibly rewarding. Start your morning hiking alongside the Buritaca River. From traditional coffee and cattle farms to blossoming cacao trees, this corner of the world is abundant in natural beauty. You'll arrive at the Mumake Camp in the afternoon, with plenty of time to rest and get to know your group better.

It's time to climb the final stretch of our trek to see the Lost City: 1,200 steep stone steps leading you into another world. The jungle-clad ruins unfold before you like pages of a book, with unique plates layered on top of the evergreen hills. Learn all about its history from our local guide, taking our time to explore the ruins before trekking downhill to Mumake Camp.

Rise early this morning as we depart Mumake Camp, hiking past the village of El Mamey and experiencing even more awe-inspiring scenery. Take in the vibrant green banana trees, listen to the morning birdsong and keep your eyes peeled for the fluttering wings of blue morpho butterflies. We'll arrive at Las Cascadas Camp for lunch and relax here for the rest of the day.

It's almost time to say goodbye, so make the most out of the beautiful views on the trek back to Machete Pelao where our adventures began. We'll then transfer back to Santa Marta. The rest of today is completely free for you to relax, or maybe head out for drinks to celebrate with a few mates!

Your trip finishes today in Santa Marta, and you are welcome to depart at any time.
