Bali is bursting with temples that'll take your breath away... but there's just something about Tanah Lot. Translating to "Land in the Sea", this mesmerising islet can only be reached when the tide is low. So legend goes, Tanah Lot was first built by a priest who was awe-struck by its coastal beauty. Bali is a tropical island with warm temperatures and high humidity all year round. While Bali's dry season lasts from April to September, its lush wet season falls from October to March. As rain showers tend to be short and intense spells, visiting during this season can be an incredible option for budget travellers. May to August is generally the most popular time of year to visit Bali.
Average annual temperatures are generally consistent, ranging somewhere between 26℃ to 30℃. January is typically the coolest month, whereas May tends to experience the warmest and driest weather.
The best time to visit on one of our Bali tours comes down to preference. If you'd like to experience the best of Bali's beaches and island-hopping, May to August is the perfect time of year for this. For travellers looking to save on flights, the wet season (October to April) is a good option.
If you're looking to experience more of Balinese culture, attending the Bali Art festival (held from mid-June to mid-July) is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the local side to island life.
Bali is unique to the rest of Indonesia in that the island's culture is deeply rooted in Hinduism. While Bali today is a melting pot of international and local influences, it is important to be mindful of traditions. Public displays of affection are not customary, and it is important to dress modestly while visiting any temples or places of worship. Personal space is valued.
As a popular destination, it is important to be respectful toward the local community by leaving each place how you found it. Reducing single-use plastic and bringing a reusable water bottle is encouraged.
British passport holders can get a visit on arrival in Indonesia for tourism purposes, lasting 30 days. This typically costs £25 and is single-entry. All foreign travellers arriving in Bali will also need to pay for a small tourist levy, costing around £8. This can be paid for online or on arrival. Your passport must have at least two blank pages, plus an expiry date of at least six months after the date you arrive.
